Cal State LA Sales Bowl 2017

Sales Bowl will begin promptly at 11:00 on Saturday April 22 and end by 1:30 or so.

Check in for competitors starts at 10:30 in Library North Community Room. You can ask for the location at the library information desk. Breakfast will be served (coffee and pastry). You'll need to fill out paperwork for getting your gift cards and prizes, so make sure you arrive before 11!

First and second round sales calls will be completed for before noon. We will break briefly for lunch around noon and then third round/pitches will take place between 12:30-1:15. Prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter and we should be finished by 1:30 if you're planning the rest of your day.

Dress is business casual. You don't need to be suited up. Just look neat and tidy.

Sales Bowl Overview

The Sales Bowl will require you to sell a sound system to an established nightclub. Information about the customer and product are located in separate tabs. Do not do outside research beyond what is included here. Focus on the content provided on this website. 

The competition will have three rounds. Each round will be timed and have a specific selling objective.

Round 1

  • Time: 5 minutes
  • Format: Sales meeting 
  • Objective: Learn more about the business and convince Michael that Sound Stage Systems is valuable to him in a generic, non-specific way (value proposition woven into a conversation where you listen more than talk.) You will also need to close on second appoint.
  • Incentive awarded for completing this round: $10 Starbucks Gift Card for each team member

Round 2

  • Time: 5 minutes
  • Format: Sales meeting
  • Objective: Confirm value based upon meeting a specific need related to Michael's business as well as close on third appointment. This round should also be about questioning and listening so you can confirm needs/value.
  • Incentive: $25 gift code or similar (might be bookstore giftcard) for each team member

Round 3

  • Time: 7 minutes
  • Format: Sales presentation/pitch
  • Objective: Pitch value and specific product. Overcome any resistance or objections (price, competitive, support, product). Close on sale.
  • Incentive: Chance to win one of the four grand prizes ($1500 for 1st, $1000 for 2nd, $500 for 3rd, $150 Amazon or similar gift cards for honorable mention ) shared among team members
