ASA (American Sociological Association) style

For sociology projects and essays, you're typically expected to use one of two citation styles: ASA or APA.  If your professor asks you to use ASA style--the style of the American Sociological Association--then consult one of the following resources.  For other styles, please refer to the Library's guide to Style Manuals & Writing Guides.

The ASA Style Guide (5th edition, published in 2014) is available at the Level 1 Service Desk   HM569 .A54 2014. The ASA Style Guide (4th edition, published in 2010) is available at the Reference Desk under this call number:   HM73 .A547 2010.  This is the authoritative guide for ASA style.

For a "cheat sheet" to ASA style, refer to the Library Quick Guide for ASA style, available at the left in two formats, MS Word or PDF.

For additional online guides to ASA style, refer to any of the ASA quick links in the box at the left.
